Vaccination coverage in children under one year of age and associated socioeconomic factors: maps of spatial heterogeneity
CONCLUSIONS: the results are useful for designing interventions regarding the structuring of vaccination services and the implementation of actions to increase vaccination coverage in clusters with less propensity to vaccinate.PMID:37729269 | DOI:10.1590/0034-7167-2022-0734

Decoding the invasive nature of a tropical pathogen of concern: The invasive non-Typhoidal Salmonella strains causing host-restricted extraintestinal infections worldwide
Microbiol Res. 2023 Sep 12;277:127488. doi: 10.1016/j.micres.2023.127488. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInvasive-Non-Typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) are the major cause of health concern in the low-income, under-developed nations in Africa and Asia that lack proper sanitation facilities. Around 5% of the NTS cases give rise to invasive, extraintestinal diseases leading to focal infections like osteomyelitis, meningitis, osteoarthritis, endocarditis and neonatal sepsis. iNTS serovars like S. Typhimurium, S. Enteritidis, S. Dublin, S. Choleraesuis show a greater propensity to become invasive than others which hints at the geneti...

Single-cell analysis of the miRNA activities in tuberculous meningitis (TBM) model mice injected with the BCG vaccine
CONCLUSION: In our study, an in-depth exploration of the mRNA expression and miRNA activity of macrophages, microglia, epididymal cells, neurons and vascular smooth muscle cells during TBM progression was conducted using scRNA-Seq, which provided novel insights into the immune cell engagement in TBM patients.PMID:37708706 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110871

Health Care Provider Knowledge and Attitudes Regarding Adult Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine Recommendations - United States, September 28-October 10, 2022
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2023 Sep 8;72(36):979-984. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7236a2.ABSTRACTDespite the availability of effective vaccines against pneumococcal disease, pneumococcus is a common bacterial cause of pneumonia, causing approximately 100,000 hospitalizations among U.S. adults per year. In addition, approximately 30,000 invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) cases and 3,000 IPD deaths occur among U.S. adults each year. Previous health care provider surveys identified gaps in provider knowledge about and understanding of the adult pneumococcal vaccine recommendations, and pneumococcal vaccine coverage remains suboptim...

Assessment of Disease Burden and Immunization Rates for Vaccine-Preventable Diseases in People Living with HIV: The Korea HIV/AIDS Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: The burden of vaccine-preventable diseases was quite high in HIV-infected patients. Nadir CD4 T-cell counts, peak HIV viral loads, and the number of ART regimen change are significant factors related to vaccination. Considering the low vaccination rates for VPDs, there was a discordance between experts' opinions and real clinical practice in the medical field.PMID:37674339 | DOI:10.3947/ic.2023.0045
